ARMIER BAY

By: Wilfred L. Camilleri

"Armier Bay" is another popular beach with Maltese people, especially those with small children. The beach is located on the north-western tip of the island. It's quite a nice beach and the sand is fine. There are places where you can rent beach umbrellas and chairs and paddle boats. Cold drinks, ice cream, light snacks and sit-down meals are also available for a number of beach-side facilities.

The beach is surrouned by small farm fields and one can still see a number of metal windmills used to pump underground water for irrigation purposes. A tour boat (a Maltese "Luzzu" - those seaworthy colourful Maltese fishing boats) usually operates from this beach. Parking is usually plentiful here but it always help to get there early.

There's another small beach located just north of Armier Bay. You can drive to it by heading north on the main road, but you can also walk to it from Armier Bay. The beach is located at White Tower Bay, which gets its name from a white tower located on the north side of the bay.
