BLUE LAGOON - COMINO

By: Wilfred L. Camilleri

The Blue Lagoon is a secluded bay on the North-Western side of the island of Comino with a great view of the island of Gozo. The little island of Cominotto is just west of Comino.

The Blue Lagoon is by far the most beautiful bay in Malta. The crystal clear waters of the Lagoon are second to none and the scenery is breathtaking. The bottom of the Lagoon is mostly white sand. When the water is still, boats seem to float in mid-air.

The Blue Lagoon is very popular with tourists and tour boats. Captain Morgan tours make daily trips to the Blue Lagoon during the tourist season. Many local and visiting yachting enthusiasts make the Blue Lagoon one of their summer stops. Another way to get to the Blue Lagoon is to take one of the ferry boats that make daily trips to the island of Comino from the Cirkewwa and Marfa peers. These ferries normally drop you off either at the Comino Hotel or at Bajja Santa Marija. Your best bet is to get off at the Comino Hotel stop and then walk to the Blue Lagoon. There is no public transportation on Comino. This is a blessing since it enables visitors to get away from it all!

You will need to take refreshments with you since there are no stores at the Blue Lagoon. Plan to spend a whole day there. The experience is unforgettable. There are showers available up the hill from the bay. This is a great idea since it enables you to wash away the salt after swimming and lsun tanning.

Take a look at these pictures of the Blue Lagoon and see what I mean!
