SAN BLAS BAY - GOZO

By: Wilfred L. Camilleri

San Blas Bay is one Gozo's undiscovered and unspoiled gems. Located on the northeast end of the island, San Blas Bay can be reached from the town of Nadur. A fertile valley sweeps down into a small but magnificent sand beach. The valley is very rich and many fruit trees grow in the small terraced orchards. Although there are some small signs pointing the way to the bay, reaching the beach is not easy. A narrow road, about the width of one small car, leads down half way down the valley. There is a small area where two or three cars can be parked. To reach the beach itself, you have to walk down a steep concrete pathway. I saw a couple of mopeds make it all the way down to the beach when I last visited the beach. This beach is quite secluded, due mostly to the fact that the beach can only be reached on foot. There are no amenities and one must carry beach chairs, food and drinks up and down the steep pathway.

But once you reach the beach, you're in for a great treat. The sand is golden red and the water is crystal clear. Many times, you have the whole beach to yourself. So the steep climb is definitely worth the effort.
