MALTESE TOWNS, VILLAGES, SITES AND BEACHES

XLENDI BAY - GOZO

By: Wilfred L. Camilleri

Xlendi Bay is located at the bottom of the Xlendi Valley in the south-western part of Gozo. There's a small fishing village at Xlendi. Many limestone-block houses line the right hand side of the bay. In recent times, the view of the beach has been partially obstructed by tall buildings. Older one-storey buildings still line the promenade at the edge of the beach and a sliver of sand can still be found between the promenade and the water.

Colourful fishing boats are moored in this protected bay and one can still see fisherman mending nets and preparing traps. This is another place where one can still see Maltese artisans make the famous and sought-after hand-made lace. There are a number of places where one can get a good Maltese meal or a cool drink.

Getting there is easy and a good-sized parking lot has been built to accommodate those driving to the beach. If you're taking local transit, catch bus number 87.

This is a very popular beach with Maltese visitors.
